About Us - McLean MPS Olympic

VA State Cup Champions U13 - 2007

The Olympic plays soccer year round - fall and spring seasons and a winter indoor/training season. The team practices twice a week as a team in the fall and spring and also takes advantage of the MPS skills session one additional evening during both seasons. In the winter, most of the boys concentrate on ODP and futsol in the local area.

History

The McLean MPS Olympic was formed in the fall of 2002 with a group of 9 players. The team did very well in its first season (8-0-1) as it adjusted to playing together in a 7v7 format. In the next season, Spring of 2003, the team continued to play against tough competition and was again successful (6-2-1). As the team went into the fall of 2003, the players changed slightly as some players left and others were added; MPS Olympic finised the season strong (7-1-1). The Team took soccer in Mclean to a new level in the Spring of 2007 when it won the VA state cup. In the finals, the Olympic beat a tough Reston team in VA Beach. From there it was on to Maine for the Regional Tournament. Although the Olympic did not make it out of bracket play, it was a great experience for both the players and families that made the trip. It was a great tournament in which the players experienced playing against the best in the east coast. MPS Olympic coach changed in the beginning of the Fall 07 with David Mckenna taking the reins. The team did well during that season, winning the NCSL Division 1. In part due to these standings plus the state cup championship last year, MPSOlympic was accepted into Region 1 for Spring 08. Region 1 is made up of some of the premier North East teams. It is a 7 game season which is played throughout the region - on four weekend which allows the team to concentrate the games in a few weekends and allows for additional concentration for state cup.
