NEW Coach Announced
German Peri - Coach
German Peri has an impressive record of success as a player and coach. His
teams have won 12 State Cup titles (the most recent being the 2006 U18B
VA State Cup) and two Region 1 Championships. German's high school
teams have won multiple State Championships as well. He has been well received by the players and
is working the tryout schedule now.
State Cup 08
MPS Olympic had a good run this year,
just wasn't meant to be. Made it to the semi-finals where MPS Olympic was beaten by RSK Strikers. The team
looks forward to winning back the state title this fall.
Upcoming events include: Region 1 games, Jefferson Cup, State Cup, and end of season tournament, Potomac Memorial Day.
Spring 2008 Region 1 Season
MPS Olympic was selected for the much discussed Region 1
which plays teams from the East Coast Region 1 (South). Teams from PA, MD, and Va compete over four weekends. In addition
to being selected for this league, the Olympic picked up an additiona goalie - welcome Sam - he will be a great addition.
We are sorry to say goodbye to two players from our team this season. You both will be missed - best of luck go with you
as you move on. Thanks for everything these past seasons.
Upcoming events include: Region 1 games, Jefferson Cup, State Cup, and end of season tournament, Potomac Memorial Day.
Fall 2007 NCLS Season
MPS Olympic overcame a 1-0 deficit to tie, 1-1 prior to the
end of the first half and then went ahead mid second half 2-1; and then held off a very determined Olney team to end
the game 2-1. It was a great game. The first goal was set up by a great run by Sophian who took the ball down
the middle of the field, Dillion ran off the ball to the right which took away at least one defender, Michael ran to
the left; when the defense collapsed on Sophian, he laid the ball off to Michael who beat the goalie for the tie.
The second goal was an over the top ball from Michael to Dillion who beat the sweeper and then the goalie and scored
the go ahead goal.
The scoring was set up by very good defensive work by the back line - Aaron did a great job, AGAIN, in goal; Hennok anchored
a very solid defense that kept Olney from having many open shots on goal.
Thanks to Trevor who came to coach as David was coaching the Hurricanes in their first State Cup game of the year; one
that they won no less!
Start of the Fall 2007 NCLS Season
MPS Olympic has had a great start to the Fall 2007
NCSL season. With a record of 3-0 against some of the best in the NCSL, MPS Olympic is playing as a team and doing
good things with the ball. With all members of the team contributing, the new players are finding a place on the
team, a new coach is bringing his style of soccer to the team, and the sidelines, like always, are alive and well.
Olympic has also been accepted to the Disney Thanksgiving Tournament - should be a great time. Keep up the good work.
ODP District Selection Aug 07
Congrats to following for being selected to the
Distric ODP team: 1993: Dylan; 1994: Will, Elliott. Congrats. Good luck in the state selection.
ODP National Identification Pool
In addition to regional pool, Michael R. was selected
for the national pool with 120 boys from across the nation. He will attend a 7 day national pool camp at the end of
July - early Aug. The U14 will conduct several trips nationally and internationally to compete against teams from the US and
foreign teams. Only 16-18 boys will be selected to each event (out of the 120).
ODP Regionals
Congrats to Michael R. for making the regional pool. 33
boys from VA along with approx 300 other boys from the region attended the ODP regional camp 6-10 Jul. This camp
was a tryout for the regional pool. The regional pool meets 21-26 Jul in Massachusetts for regional training.
Rankings (for what they are worth)
Currently, MPS Olympic is ranked 2nd in VA (after
Reston Nova), and 15th in the Region by National Soccer Rankings (16th in Region by GotSoccer.com).
In addition, we are ranked 92nd in the nation by GotSoccer.com.
2008 ODP
The dates for ODP tryouts are posted on the
VYSA website. Currently they are on 4 and 5 Aug (yes, right around
the corner). Most of our boys are 94s with a few 93s. There is also a link to
register
so when you get there, you don't have to fill out any paperwork or pay any money.
2007 Fall Roster
As always, when changes are made, it is with sadness that
we say goodbye to a few players and families and welcome new ones to the team. We are sorry to see you depart and wish
you all the best in the future. For those that are incoming, we welcome you and your families to our team. We look
forward to spending quite a bit of time with all of you. Additions to the team were: Patric B., Sophien D., Devon P.,
Henok Y. and Elliot B. Welcome.
Regional Tournament (1 Jul 07
MPS Olympic made the trek to Portland, ME for the regional
tournament. They played the Vermont, the Mass, and the New York East State Champs. They prevailed in the first
two games (2-1 and 4-0); however, against the New York team, the two teams tied. Due to the New York team having
more shutouts than Olympic, they moved on and the Olympic returned to Virginia. However, the team work, espirit, experience,
and the pure fun that the team had was fun to watch. In all the games, the Olympic controlled the ball, the tempo, and
pace of play. Thanks to David K. for coming up and coaching.
Calendar and Vision for the Future (Coach David Kenna - 10 June)
New Coach, David Kenna has published the following
documents in order to explain his vision and lay out the schedule for the next two years. As the team
moves forward, here is the
Vision for the team. Also included
is the two year
calendar . If you have any questions, pls contact the coach or the
team manager.
State Cup (6 June 2007)
Golden Goal PK's decided this State Cup Final. MPS Olympic
won the game after regulation time, two 10 minute overtime, five PKs, and finally, on the 6th PK, the Olympic emerged
as the 2007 VA State Cup champion. Congratulations to both teams. On to Portland, ME 28 June thru 2 July.
State Cup (2 June 2007)
MPS Olympic played FC Nova this afternoon, playing to a 1-1 tie
in regulation. In the 20 minute overtime, Olympic scored to win the game 2-1. They will play SYA Nova sometime the week
of 4 June for the state championship. Great game by both teams.
State Cup (28 May 07)
MPS Olympic has finally broken through the round of 16
in the VA state cup tournament. They advance to the round of 4 at VA Beach on 2 Jun. If they win the semi-final
game against FC Nova (RESTON) on Saturday, they will play the other semi-finalist winner on 3 June. Great job and good
luck to the team this weekend.
DC United Super Y League (20 May 07)
Many of the Olympic current players tried out for and made
the DC United Super Y and developmental teams. Over the past two months, Michael R., Jonathan, Dillon, Aaron, have all
tried out for this prestigious team. At least one made the Super Y league team while others made the developmental team.
Great job trying out for this team.
1st Game of Fall 2006 NCSL Div 1
A great start to this years soccer season. Clearly
dominant on the pitch this afternoon, the Olympic beat a good BOCA side 3-1. The score could have been much higher
without some really good BOCA goal keeping. The boys finally played like Coach Trevor has been training them - the
ball moved from side to side up and down the field constantly. The ball was in BOCAs a majority of the time. Great job.
ODP - 20 Aug 06
Many of the current Olympic players tried out for the
Olympic Development Program recently. Of the ones that tried out, congrats to the following who were selected:
Jonathan G., Michael R., Dylan G., and Peter M. They will practice every Friday on LP2 and will try out for the State
team in late Spring. We wish them all the best of luck!
